 Hi everyone.
Just a question, how do you choose the fabric for your pattern? What do you prefer and why. 
Bought for the first time Aida, while always working on evenweave and linen, and thought asking your opinion, so please give it a thought!!. Happy stitching, Fenny. |

Hi Fenny, I love to work with Aida! It is easy to stitch on. What "count" did you get? I like the 14 count, it works for pretty much everything.

Hi Sue, bought the 14, 16,and 18 ct for an SQ. Doing one now with evenweave but there are so many colours involved amd it's very easy to miscount the
threads and stitches. The patterns are often done at 18 and 16 ct. Did make a start and found that it's not easy to start and finish a thread.
Very difficult to get the needle underneath the stitches you've
done.Hence this question, thanks for answering.

Hi Fenny, When you start a thread with aida, leave a "tail", and stitch over that "tail". Maybe I can show you here: _______ (that is the "tail") on the backside of your project. Now, as
you stitch, stitch over the "tail". The back side of your piece should look like this: ////////

That is a great tip, hey, w're learning here . Great, well
as you saw, this is my first attempt with aida, in Holland Aida was never used at my home, like you we just loved to work with linen.
And then the evenweave came along with different cts. and colours. Linen is also of course in all shades. But for the SQ thought to give aida a try, it,s a very soft aida, so that's a good thing, and started and needed this advise, Thanks And you work in a cross stitch shop ,you really are surrounded with all these beautiful charts and fabrics? And your right about the smell of it, when I buy in Holland, and you enter the shop, it's really special! What are you working on now? Happy stitching, Fenny. |

Yes, I'm stitching an SQ. I'm doing it on l6 count Aida. I have always stitched on Aida. When I first began stitching everything came out in kits
and it was always l4 count Aida. I did that for a long time but discovered that on l6 count Aida the dark 2 strandd flosses cover better. So I use that now.
I don't think I could stitch on evenweave. Tails of threads. All of my stitching is pictures which are framed so I don't worry too much about the
back. I grid my fabric in 20 x 20 blocks. When I start a thread I leave about 3/4 inch tail. As I continue to change threads (and this pattern
has lots of changes) some of those get covered up. When I have completed a grid block and all the stitches are securely seated I turn it over, lift up all
the loose tails and clip the m to about a 3/8 inch length. They never pull out and the back looks even so when framed it looks just fine. I could
never be patient enough to stitch over ea each tail as I start but when I finish a thread I do go under a few stitches on the back before I clip it off.
That's my method and I know a lot different than most stitchers but it works for me. Fern |

Just read Brenda's post. Yes if I'm stitching with just 1 color thread I use the loop method too. But most of this piece is in blends so that
doesn't workfor blends.
